Local ICT entrepreneurs are urged to explore various opportunities in creating potential software for use in and outside the country including the learning application development and production of teaching materials in digital form. This matter was highlighted by the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar, at a ceremony to hand over the Brunei Darussalam Digital Pasang, a traditional board game, between the Authority for Info-Communication Technological Industry, AiTi, of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Education. The ceremony took place this afternoon at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.

Yang Berhormat said at the same time, the ICT industry also needs to be more proactive in carrying out research and development activities to produce more innovative and creative local products that are also able to compete at the international level. Yang Berhormat said that in an effort to promote the Pasang Emas game and together preserve the tradition game, Yang Berhormat suggested that the Ministry of Education and AiTi organise a Pasang Emas Competition among schools. With the digital Pasang Emas game now being available, Yang Berhormat hoped that it would make the teaching and learning of the game more practical and effective. The game is already been absorbed into the school curriculum through the subject on M.I.B. Yang Berhormat called on school teachers in particular, to organise an extra-curricular activity to motivate the practice of the game among students.

The Digital Pasang Emas Game is the product created by a local citizen and I.T. Lecturer at UBD, Pengiran Doctor Haji Norjaidi bin Pengiran Tuah, and distributed by the Cyberunai eServices Company Sendirian Berhad. The Market Creation Programme for the production of Pasang Emas is a joint-venture effort between AiTi and the Ministry of Education. In this programme, AiTi identifies the Ministry of Education through schools, as the target market for the Pasang Emas product which will used ink the Malay Islamic Monarchy curriculum at secondary schools throughout the country.

At this ceremony, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Dato Paduka Haji Awang Alaihuddin, as the Chairman of the Authority for Brunei Darussalam Info-Communication Technology Industry, handed over the Digital Pasang Traditional Game DVD to the Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education Datin Paduka Hajah Apsah binti Haji Abdul Majid. At the early stage, the Digital Pasang Emas DVDs will be distributed among secondary schools.
