All road users are responsible for keeping roads safe for everyone, to reduce accidents that could cause property loss, casualties and deaths. Road users are urged to always drive carefully and read prayers before driving in order to avoid mishaps. The call was made in Friday's sermon at all mosques and suraus throughout the country today. The topic of the sermon - Road Traffic Victim Remembrance Day was to commemorate victims who were killed in road accidents which are reported to be on the increase.
The Imam said that 85 percent of the road accidents were caused by drivers such as driving at great speed, not following road traffic regulations, being inconsiderate, careless, sleepy, and exhausted . 0ther factors contributing to the accidents include mechanical faults, the condition of the road and vehicles , rain as well as haze. The Imam said that law enforcement agencies legislated road traffic regulations, hold roadblocks, and upgrade road safety infrastructure in efforts to reduce road accidents. Apart from that, a number of automobil companies and technologies have created sophisticated safety equipment such as warning systems, and speed control system to enhance drivers' safety. Inspite of such efforts, the rate of accidents continues to rise every year. What is important, the Imam added, is the attitude of drivers . They should be well-discipline, considerate respectful and patient while driving.
