Discussing and finalising the Institutional Arrangement and Modalities for the implementation of the Heart of Borneo, HoB initiative are among the agendas of the 4th HoB Trilateral Meeting. The meeting also aimed at providing an update of each country's progress in implementing their national HoB initiatives and discuss other matters which are relevant for the successful and effective implementation of the Heart of Borneo initiatives.
The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdillah in his opening remarks shared his aspiration for the meeting. Among the aspiration was to recognise that sustainable development for the HoB initiative requires the necessity for sustainable sources of funds to implement their initiatives, recognise the importance of having an effective management tool as presented in the proposed geographic information system for the Heart of Borneo and recognise the importance of a single HoB environmental and business value proposition by subscribing to a single HoB Logo and Brand.
The HoB initiative is a joint undertaking of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia in declaring their commitment to preserve one of the most important centres of biological diversity in the world, including the two hundred and twenty thousand square kilometres of equatorial forests and numerous wildlife species. The three-day meeting was attended by sixty delegates representing Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia.
