23/08/2019  Labour Force Survey 2019

National

In an effort to collect the latest information on the size, structure, distribution and characteristics of the labour force, employment, unemployment and other economic characteristics of the population, which will be used to assist in the planning, research, policy-making and management concerning the labour force, the Department of Economic Planning and Development, JPKE is conducting the Labour Force Survey, LFS 2019 until November this year.

Two stages:

1. First stage - 21st August 2019 to 10th September 2019

2. Second stage - 14th October to 10th November 2019

LFS 2019 will be implemented in two stages. The first Stage is from the 21st of August to 10th September 2019, whereas the second stage will be held from the 14th of October to 10th of November 2019. The purpose of the first stage is to do the listing of all housing units in the selected areas only, throughout the country. Survey officers will collect information about the households such as the name of the head of household and the number of members living in the housing unit. The information will be used during the sampling for the second stage. During the second stage, the survey officers will visit the selected households to interview the head and each member of the household in order to collect the required information in the survey.

LFS 2019 will involve about 3,200 selected households only throughout the country. The interview will be conducted using the Computer Assisted Personal Interview, CAPI method. The Labour Force Survey is conducted under the Statistics Act, Chapter 81 from the Laws of Brunei Darussalam. JPKE assures the selected households that the information collected during the survey will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only. JPKE has appointed survey officers as supervisors and interviewers to undertake the fieldwork for the survey. Selected households are reminded to ensure that the interviewers visiting their premises are those appointed by JPKE through their survey passes, appointment letters, identity cards and JPKE vest.
