His Excellency Richard Lindsay, The British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon hosted a reception to celebrate the award of the prestigious Chevening scholarship for 2019-2020 to Awang Anwar Mohammad. The event was held at His Excellency's Residence in Jalan Kota Batu.
Present at the event was Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, Member of the Legislative Council who was a Chevening scholar in 2014-2015. His Excellency Richard Lindsay in his speech congratulate Awang Anwar who will soon be joining over 2,000 Chevening scholars from across the world in starting their fully funded year of postgraduate study in the UK. His Excellency also added on his return to Brunei, Awang Anwar will join the very active Chevening Alumni group, and retain close links with the British High Commission.
Chevening is the United Kingdom Government's global scholarship programme that offers future leaders the unique opportunity to study in the UK. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding professionals from all over the world to pursue a one-year master's degree in ant subject at any UK university.
Awang Anwar Mohammad, an Investment Officer at Brunei Investment Agency, is also the Chairman and Founder of Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT). He said that this Post-Graduate course will allow him to explore the rapidly-developing field of social innovation investments. He will start his fully-funded postgraduate studies through an Master in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom.
