His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda said that understanding the policies and teaching of Al-Quran is an element that will continue to secure peace, well-being and prosperity. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in the sabda also expressed hope that the Youth Musabaqah can bring more Southeast Asian Muslim youth closer to Al-Quran. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the opening of the 9th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition for 1441 Hijrah/2019 at the International Convention Centre, Berakas. In the sabda, His Royal Highness stressed that the youth play a vital role in moulding the region's future development that has various challenges brought by globalisation including current technology info-communications advancement. 22 qari and qariah from ASEAN member states and Timor Leste are taking part in the 9th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition for 1441 Hijrah/2019.
Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Co-Chairmen of the 9th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition for 1441Hijrah/2019 Executive Committee; and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.
In his welcoming remarks, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said that this year's participation is encouraging which reflected the high commitment of ASEAN member states in contributing to the event. At the same time, this proves that the regional level ties can be further strengthened through religious deeds.
The Musabaqah Al-Qur'an is held for 3 consecutive nights. The first night saw 6 participants presenting their readings.
