The Brunei Darussalam's downstream industry marked another milestone with the extension of the domestic oil and gas value chain. Yesterday, the Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd, BSM, starts to receive the supply of refined fuel products of Pulau Muara Besar Refinery. The supply from Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad, is expected to reduce the country's dependency on imported fuel products while also generating products for export. This is part of commercial agreement between BSM dan Hengyi signed on the 18th of September 2019. The ceremony was held yesterday morning at Pulau Muara Besar.
The launching ceremony was jointly officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and the Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Engineer Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md Hussein, Minister of Energy; Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam; Mr Chen Lian Cai, Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries; and Awang Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Managing Director of BSM.
Earlier, the ceremony began with the briefing on the oil process and tour around the Operation Room. Hengyi will be supplying a total of 427,509 barrels of refined fuel products to BSM to meet the monthly domestic demand of petroleum products. The refinery is a world-class oil refinery and aromatics complex with the capacity to refine 8 million tonnes of crude oil per year. The petrochemical plant is capable of producing 13 different types of petroleum products.
