The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications achieved development and progress in areas such as policy, transport and infocommunication projects as well as a number of of reforms in 2020. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications made the remarks while chairing the Ministry of Transport and Infocommmunications Meeting Session with Members of the Legislative Council. The Minister also shared the MTIC2025 Strategic Plans For the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, MTIC, Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 and Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Strategic Plan 2025 which are targeted for implementation within the next five years. The meeting took place at the Ministry.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib also highlighted several main initiatives that are focussed towards sparking the digital transformation process in Brunei Darussalam, and also to ensure cyber security through Cyber Security Brunei, CSB as one of the main strategic 'enablers' to the digital transformation.
In his speech, the Minister said Brunei Darussalam is also preparing to acquire 5G coverage. The 5G pilot project that will be carried out at several identified locations which will be has received the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and will be implemented in the first quarter of 2021. In the aspect of personal data, AITI is preparing a legislation and is planning a framework for the administration of Personal Data Protection. The legislation or laws and framework are vital in safeguarding personal data information, especially by the private sector. The Ministrer said cyber security aspect is important and His Majesty has also consented to the establishment of Cyber Security Brunei [CSB] on the 1st of August 2020. The CSB is one of the main strategic 'enablers' of the digital transformation and play a role in running three vital services which are BruCERT, National Digital Forensic Laboratory and Cyber Watch Centre (CWC). Yang Berhormat also highlighted His Majesty's titah on threats to cyber security which also affect the country.
Yang Berhormat added continued and concerted efforts by all parties through the 'Whole of Nation Approach' have brought down road fatalities by more than 50 percent in two years which was 29 in 2017 and 13 in 2019. The figure dropped to 11 up to November 2020. The 18-member Legislative Council Delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad. The Meeting Session is a platform for open discussions and exchange of views on the transport and infocommunications sector.
