Brunei Darussalam has advanced further in benefiting from cultural knowledge and in integrating it with innovation for the development of local creative economy. Towards this goal, Brunei Darussalam has laid the right foundation for the creative industries to take off and flourish by adopting innovative branding and marketing strategies where intellectual property is a major component in the national policy of the creative industry.
This was stated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at the Launching Ceremony of the National Policy Forum on Creative Industry 2012 in the morning.
Yang Berhomat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair, in his address, also touched on the potential of the creative industry as one of the efforts to generate the economy. Creative Industry has contributed to the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, of several developed countries and provides job opportunities to youth. In the United States of America and the United Kingdom, according to Yang Berhormat Pehin, creative industry has contributed an estimated 1.5 trillion US dollars and 60 billion pounds to the economy of both countries. In Asia, the growth in creative industry is also very encouraging, where the annual growth rate is between 5 and 11 percent. Many countries in the Asia region have begun giving priority and focus on policy-making and strategy in developing the potential of creative industry.
The National Policy Forum on Creative Industry 2012, is being held for 3 days until Wednesday. The Forum has also invited several presenters of working papers from within the country and abroad, comprising experts in several creative industry courses. The Forum has also invited presenters of resolutions that will used as an initial basis in the preparation and legislation of the national creative industry. Also present were the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Haji Wahab bin Juned; the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina. The ceremony took place at the BRIDEX Convention Hall, Jerudong.
