The Launching and Naming Ceremony of the Royal Brunei Navy's new ship, DARUTTAQWA, has been held at the Luerssen Shipyard, Berne, Niedersachsen, Federal Republic of Germany. His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah consented to attend the ceremony.

Upon arrival at the shipyard, His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen was received by Brunei's Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat; Brunei Darussalam's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Pehin Datu Panglima Retired Colonel Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil bin Haji Ahmad; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Mohd Hanifah; and the Managing Director of Luerssen Shipyard, Mr Peter Luerssen.

His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen then consented to board the DARUTTAQWA to have a closer look at the progress of the ship's construction.

The Launching and Naming Ceremony of the DARUTTAQWA commenced with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the Assistant Head of Religious Department of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Captain Ariffin bin Amit.

This was followed by the welcoming remarks from the Managing Director of Luerssen Shipyard, Mr Peter Luerssen.

His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen then consented to officiate the launching and naming of the ship, which was immediately followed by the Azan.

As the patrol vessel was lowered to the water for the first time, a Doa Selamat was recited to seek the blessing and protection of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.

The DARUTTAQWA will be commissioned into the Royal Brunei Navy as a patrol vessel which will also function as a logistics and training ship for the Royal Brunei Navy.  The DARUTTAQWA Patrol Vessel began its construction in May 2012 and is expected to be completed in May 2014.  The ship is an 80- metre Darussalam class patrol vessel weighing one thousand 600 tonnes and equipped with a helicopter landing pad.

Prior to the Launching and Naming Ceremony of the patrol vessel DARUTTAQWA, His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen consented to attend the briefing on the vessel's construction progress at the Conference Room, Park Hotel, Bremen, Federal Republic of Germany.

The briefing on the history and construction of the ship was presented by Mr Peter Luerssen.

This was followed by a briefing on the manning and naval training of the DARUTTAQWA's crew presented by the Head of Naval Project Overseer, Lieutenant Colonel Azlan bin Haji Ahmad.

His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince 'Abdul Mateen also consented to attend a luncheon hosted by the Managing Director of Luerssen Shipyard.

Also in attendance with His Royal Highness was Brunei Darussalam's Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat; Brunei Darussalam's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Pehin Datu Panglima Retired Colonel Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil bin Haji Ahmad; the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Mohd Hanifah as well as other officials from the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
