The Brunei History Centre hopes the exhibition on the Brunei Sultan's former empire, educates the public, especially the young generation, in the field of history which is interesting to study and know.
The Brunei Letters of Declaration Exhibition showcases the letters of declaration of the province of Brunei to the Island of Borneo in the 19th Century. Objects on display date back to between 1865 and 1907.
According to the Brunei History Centre, most of the letters were acquired from the United Kingdom, Holland, Spain, Australia, America, India, Malaysia and Singapore. According to the Head of Resource Section, Brunei History Centre, Pengiran Hajah Mahani, among the letters of agreement exhibited, were those on financial arrangements in the British North Borneo Company now known as Sabah. During that time, Brunei's splendour was seen in the areas and territories it owned. From there, people can learn and gain examples of how great the monarchy was in governing a large territory as well as in facing challenges then.
