Youths must not be afraid to explore the field of history to become a knowledgeable society. The Head of the Brunei History Centre underscored this at the launch of the Campaign to Promote History Centres and Brunei Letters of Declaration Exhibition, organised by the History Centre. The campaign and exhibition promote historical information to the public and the young generation. Â
Yang Berhormat Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr. Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri stated that the nation needed educated youths, capable of creative and analytical thinking in the field of history. Society, he said, must be brave and strong in promoting history so as to preserve loyalty to the monarch, religion, race and nation.
The Brunei History Centre is a centre for resources on Brunei's history, and helps achieve the 2035 Brunei Vision to produce highly educated human resources with wide knowledge in numerous fields including history. With the aim to assist public research and the search for information on Brunei's history, the Brunei History Centre also launched its Blog and Facebook page. The aim is to inculcate love for the king, religion, nation and race.
Over 520 people were present, comprising university undergraduates, primary, secondary school and college students, as well as individual members of the centre's library. Over 20,000 books including about 400 old books, journals, working papers and reports including microfilm available in the library make up the reference material.
A book published in 1923 called "The City of Malay Waters" is also available at the library. Written by a Peter Blundell, the book details the visit of Sultan Hashim, the 25th Sultan of Brunei to Kampong Ayer as well as Brunei's economic and social activities in Kampong Ayer, back in the days.
