Penghulus and Ketua Kampungs are urged to be proactive, responsive and committed in carrying out their duties and responsibilities, to fulfil the hopes and needs of their respective mukim and kampung communities.
Continually improving the quality of their services, particularly in meeting the expectations of the mukim and kampung residents, is also among the challenges they face. The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs made the call at the ceremony to present the Letter of Appointment to the Ketua Kampung of the Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme, Area 2.
Dr. Awang Haji Affendy said that Penghulus and Ketua Kampungs should be farsighted, creative and innovative, and with new ideas to develop their respective mukim and kampung. Meanwhile, involvement of mukim and kampung residents is also necessary in giving practical ideas and views that can generate progress and development of the kampung more effectively. In other words, Dr. Awang Haji Affendy added, Penghulus and Ketua Kampungs should work together with the support of residents, without which all plans may not beimplemented. Â
Here also lies the role of Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils whose members comprise mukim and kampung residents. The Permanent Secretary also reminded the penghulus and ketua kampungs, that, in focusing on mukim and kampung developments, they should not overlook the welfare of the needy, to whom several government and non-government agencies are providing assistance to alleviate their burden. The Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils can also serve as a platform for assisting the underprivileged to ensure the care of their well-being.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs then presented the letter of appointment of Ketua Kampung of the Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme Area Two, to Awang Haji Basri bin Abu Bakar. Awang Haji Basri, who is 57 years old, was appointed to the post on the 7th of April 2012. He previously served in the Royal Brunei Police Force for 37 years, and was a Staff Sargeant until he retired. Also present at the function were several members of the Legislative Council.
