Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD and the East-West Centre, EWC of Hawaii, United States of America, is jointly organising a Brunei-US English Language Enrichment Project in developing new skills such as ICT Literacry. The Brunei-US English Language Enrichment Project for ASEAN is a five year project supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, of Negara Brunei Darussalam and the state Department of the Government of the United States Of America. To assist the ASEAN participants of the project, a ceremony to mark the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, between Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and the East-West Centre, EWC of Hawaii, was held in the morning.
Signing on behalf of UBD was its Vice-Chancellor, Dato Paduka Dr. Haji Zulkarnain; while EWCwas represented by its President, Dr. Charles Morriso. Present to witness the signing were the Permanent Secretary at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dato Paduka Shofry, the Acting Permanent Secretary for Higher Education, Awangku Abdullah, and the Director of the Continuing Education Centre, UBD, Dr Salbrina Sharbawi as well as the Director of EWC Education Programme, Dr Terrence Bigalke.The project that aims to improve the level of English In ASEAN, is an English Language Programme for 70 participants from ten ASEAN countries. The Programme participants will spend 7 weeks in UBD and 4 weeks in EWC. The 11-week programme will begin in September this year.
