The lowering ceremony of large Brunei Darussalam National Flag was held this afternoon, marking the end of the period to hoist the national flag throughout the country in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 66th birthday celebration. The giant-sized national flag was hoisted since the first of this month.
The event was followed with a parade mounted by 66 national flag bearers comprised personnel of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Prisons Department and accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Force Band of the Polis Diraja Brunei. It began with reading of Surah Al-Fatihah.
Officiating at the lowering ceremony of the flag were personnel of the Royal Brunei Navy. As the hoisting ceremony of the giant-sized national flag four weeks ago, the lowering ceremony also reflects the power of the country and the strength of the race.
The large National Flag then handed over to the Senior Assistant Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Haji Ahmad. Present at the function was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi, who is Chairman of the Hoisting of large Brunei Darussalam National Flag in conjunction with His Majesty's 66th birthday celebration.
The citizens and redisents in the country should continue to instil the nationhood spirit and commitment and to nurture continuous love and loyalty to the Manarch and Walil 'Amri in nation building. The day's function took place at the Open Area at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan.
