A 23-year old local woman was sentenced to 26 months imprisonment for stealing jewellery from a goldsmith shop in Berakas recently. The sentence was passed today by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates Court.
SITI MURDIAH NUR MAJEEDAH HAJI AWANG MURNI was sentenced for two offences namely, for carrying out theft under Section 3-8-0, Penal Act, Chapter 22 and for driving recklessly under Section 2-7-9 of the Penal Act, Chapter 22. In the theft case which occurred on the 25th of July, the defendant stole jewellery comprising 4 gold necklaces and 4 gold bracelets worth $18,500 from a shop at the Delima Satu Complex in Berakas. While trying to get away, the defendant's purse containing her identification documents was dropped. Meanwhile, on the 26th of July, the defendant drove recklessly and dangerously in the capital while trying to run away from the police.
