The arrival of the first of Syawal is much awaited by every Muslim in the country to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and was welcomed with a gun salute this afternoon.
As per usual, the arrival of Syawal was greeted with a 12 gun salute at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital. The gun-salute with cannon shots were carried out by the Military Police of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration begins tomorrow with the sunnat Hari Raya prayer at all mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the country starting at 7.30 in the morning. In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the Istana Nurul Iman will be open for 3 days for visits by members of the public, from the second hari raya onwards. The Istana will be open from 10 in the morning until noon and again from 2 until 4 in the afternoon, for members of the public to convey Hari Raya Greetings to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the royal family.
