The opening ceremony for the 2012 Paralympic Games takes place on the 29th of August in London, the United Kingdom. Brunei Darussalam is represented by one athlete who will compete in the javelin throwing event. Brunei's contingent to the Games left the country.
Present at the airport to bid farewell to the contingent was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina. Leading the Bruneian contingent was Awang Haji Rosmadee bin Haji Mohammad Daud as Chef de Mission. Brunei's only athlete is Awang Shari bin Haji Jumaat, and he will compete in the javelin throwing event in F-55 category for wheel chair.
Also present were the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Rob Fenn; and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang Haji Ismail bin Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Haji Hashim. Awang Shari holds impressive national and regional records and is expected to compete in the first week of September during the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The selection of athletes to the Paralympic 2012 Games is based on the past achievements of the game.
