His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in his titah, went on to urge that the Hari Raya celebration be made as an opportunity to further strengthen the family institution and for fostering goodwill among Muslims.

"This is the way that we Bruneians celebrate. Happiness is not only celebrated among families, relatives and friends, but also reflected through characteristics of living as an organisation and as a community. This will nurture mutual respect, helping one another, compromise, transparency, trustworthiness and sincerity in all aspects of life. Good practice such as this, when perpetuated, will become a culture. A good life culture in turn reflects the strength of a community that is built upon religion. Thus, let us together uphold religion in whatever business and undertaking we are in. I believe this is the pillar of our strength and prosperity all these whiles".
