A Ketua Kampung is responsible for establishing and maintaining understanding, unity and harmony of the community under his care as well as encouraging the spirit of cooperation so that such a practice will continue to withstand the test of time.
A village chief also plays the role of holding discussions with the Kampung Consultative Council and the kampung residents on any welfare matters for development and well-being of the kampung especially those concerning the residents themselves including the aspects of security and safety of the kampung in particular and the nation as a whole.
The Brunei-Muara District Officer, Awang Haji Jemain bin Mumin highlighted the matter during a Voting and Nomination Ceremony for a Ketua Kampung for Area Two of the Tungku Land Scheme for the Indigenous Races. He said that it was in line with the Titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, urging Penghulu Mukims and Ketua Kampungs to hold weekly discussions and meetings and get together with their kampung residents as conveyed through the letter from the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affaris.
