79 students received the Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards for the Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'O', 'AS' and 'A' level in the October/November 2011 examinations. This includes 33 students who received the "Top Ten in the World" award in the examinations. The Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presented the awards at a ceremony held in the morning.
The awards are aimed at acknowledging the student who have excelled academically and achieved awards such as Top Ten in the World, Top in Brunei Darussalam, Best Achievement and Best Across in various subjects in the Brunei Cambridge GCE O, AS and A level exams. 337 students have received these awards since they were introduced in 2007. According to the Acting Director of the Examination Department, Dayang Hajah Kamlah binti Haji Daud, the awards are hoped to be act as an encouragement not only for students, but also to teachers as well as parents and guardians, to always strive and give support towards achieving excellent academic results.
Out of 40 students who recived awards in the O'level examinations, 25 received the Top 10 in the World Award. Out of 17 students who received awards in the AS level examinations, 1 received the Top 10 in the World Award. Meanwhile, out of 22 recipients for the A'level examinations, 7 received Top 10 in the World awards in Sociology, Psychology, Geography and Thinking Skills. For the Top in Brunei Darussalam Awards, 22 students received awards in 20 subject fields for the O'level examinations; 18 students received awards in 16 subjects for the AS level examinations, while 18 students received awards for the A'level examinations. This year, a student from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Institute received an award for "High Achievement in Ulum Al-Quran or Sciences of the Quran; and Tafsir Al-Quran or Interpretation of the Quran in the O' Level examinations. The students received their awards and certificates of appreciation from the Ministry of Education and the University of Cambridge International Examinations. This morning's function took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
