Brunei Darussalam continues its commitment to monitor and maintain ceasefire in this region. This afternoon, five reinforcement personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, RBAF, and one member of the Royal Brunei Police Force left the country to join the 8th Group of the International Monitoring Team, for the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, M.I.L.F.
Before their departure, a Farewell Ceremony for the International Monitoring Team was held at the Royal Brunei Airforce Base in Rimba. The Acting Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat was present. This contingent saw the participation from the Royal Brunei Police Force for the first time. The six-member IMT will take the role as an action team in Bandar Cotabato, and is responsible in monitoring implementation of agreements that had been signed between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the M.I.L.F., covering territories and municipal areas, including socio-economic development. Participation in overseas operation is an important event for Brunei Darussalam on regional collaboration in support of peace and stability of neighbouring countries. This involvement also opens the opportunity to RBAF personnel to gain experience and exporsure in foreign mission such IMT.
