Brunei Darussalam and Pakistan has signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding and agreements as well as bilateral forums to benefit both countries. This was stated by His Excellency Retired Major General Tariq Rashid Khan, High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam at the reception on the occasion of Pakistan Day last night.
Tuberculosis or TIBI is both preventable and curable. With a combination of vaccination, accessible healthcare, early screening and diagnosis, it is possible for a country to eliminate TB as a public health problem. However, even after significant advancements in healthcare, a third of the world's population has been exposed and is currently infected with T-B. In fact globally, it is responsible for 9 million new cases and 1.5 million deaths each year. This was among the matters underscored in the message by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health in conjunction with World TB Day.

According to the Water Service Department's study and statistics, water usage in Brunei Darussalam is among the highest in the region. The total amount of water used for domestic purposes is estimated at more than 420 litres per person per day, compared to the amount used in the neighbouring countries of about 200 to 250 litres per person per day. Such a difference shows that water usage in this country is far more than elsewhere in the region. Currently, it is estimated that over one billion people across the globe are not receiving clean water and the number is expected to rise up to 2.8 billion by 2025. This is a cause for great concern if no effort is made to save water. The matter was highlighted in the Friday Sermon today.
