In conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's 40th National Day Celebration, the Brunei Chess Federation held a Blitz Chess Tournament. The one-day tournament took place at the Chess Centre, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The tournament competed in 8 categories which are under-14; under-16; under-18; female category; 50-year veteran; 65-year veteran; the best schools under-14 and under-18, as well as the open category. The prizes to the winners were presented by His Excellency Luke Arnold, Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam. The tournament was participated by 47 players.
