In recent years, Brunei Darussalam has made significant strides in diversifying its economy beyond its traditional reliance on oil and gas. According to the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, sustainability is also a key priority for the country. Speaking at the launch of the Islamic Development Bank Group Day, ISDB, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah said that despite global challenges, Islamic finance has shown remarkable resilience with over half of Brunei's total financial sector assets held by Islamic financial institutions.
Datuk Amer Bukvić, Director and Resident Representative of Regional Hub Indonesia, Head of the ISDB Delegation in his keynote speech among others said these events mark a significant milestone in fostering economic collaboration and unlocking new investment and trade opportunities between Brunei Darussalam and the 57 member countries of the ISDB Group. Also present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.
The launching ran concurrently with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD and ISDB that can deepen mutually beneficial cooperation at several key areas such as on Infrastructure Development, on Agriculture and Food Security.
ISDB Day also featured presentations on various topics related to Islamic finance, trade, and investment allowing attendees to learn about the ISDB Group's services and explore potential areas for collaboration.
