Local participation in the maritime sector is highly encouraged to help create a thriving and more competitive maritime sector. Speaking at the SPHI Marine Escort Terminal Tugs Commencement Ceremony, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications said the government remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting local participation and development within the maritime sector by implementing supportive policies. Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha said, this is to ensure that local companies have access to opportunities traditionally dominated by international entities, and play a significant role in port and shipping services. The ceremony took place at the Cruise Ship Centre, Muara Port Company, 1st October morning.
The vessels are the first fully locally owned, financed, flagged and operated Escort Terminal Tugs for Brunei LNG. It is another significant step forward in local business development that not only provides valuable job opportunities for locals, but also helps equip the workforce with the necessary skills and expertise to contribute to the industry and the nation as a whole.
