​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah consents to the change of name of the Gurkha Reserve Unit, GRU to the Gurkha Security Unit. His Majesty expresses hope that all personnel will continue to instil core values with full commitment, so that the GRU remains relevant for the next generation. His Majesty made the titah at the GRU Golden Jubilee celebration, 28th November morning. His Majesty began the titah by expressing gratitude towards Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala that by His Grace that they were able to celebrate a significant milestone, which was the GRU Golden Jubilee celebration. The Monarch also expresses congratulations for the illustrious parade that reflected the personnel's preparedness and high discipline. For 50 years, GRU has contributed to the peace and prosperity enjoyed by Brunei Darussalam.​
