The number of new converts or muallaf in Brunei Darussalam continues to increase after various ethnic and race chose Islam as their new belief. The increase also reflects the development of Islamic Syiar in the country. Last year, 319 people embraced Islam nationwide.
According to statistics by the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs, of the figure, Brunei Muara District recorded the highest number of new converts which was 148 people. Followed by Belait District, 88; Tutong District 69; and Temburong District with 14 people.
In terms of race or ethnicity, Dusun recorded the highest number with 85 people, followed by Iban with 84, Filipinos at 59, Chinese 49, Europeans 8, Murut 6, Bisaya 3 and others at 25.
