There is no doubt that micro, small and medium enterprises, MSMEs, which comprise 97.2 percent of the total number of businesses in Brunei Darussalam, play an important role in contributing to the country's economic development and employment sources in the private sector.

MSMEs play a fundamental role in driving economic growth and fostering resilience in the country's economy. The contribution of MSMEs is far from just business, it is also an engine of innovation and job creation whereby in 2020, MSMEs have also made a significant contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) which is estimated at 31.2 percent.

The development of a conducive industrial ecosystem through business facilitation, training programmes and infrastructure should also be given priority. The measures aim to ensure that the local business sector is more competitive and able to contribute to the country's sustainable economic growth.
