The Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, BDNOC has introduced its first-ever Women in Sport Strategic Plan - an initiative which reflects a significant step forward in the efforts of the Olympic Council of Asia to promote inclusivity and aligns with the council's goals. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council made the sabda at the Second Olympic Council of Asia, OCA, Gender Equity Seminar on 14th April morning. The seminar took place at The Empire Brunei, Jerudong.
His Royal Highness, who is also the Honorary Executive Board Member of the OCA, highlighted this year's theme, "Watch Her Shine" as a call to drive real change in ensuring that women have the support and opportunities to succeed in sport. His Royal Highness said members of National Olympic Committees, NOCs could play a crucial role by utilising OCA-Olympic Solidarity Funds to promote female participation at all levels of sport.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Al Hussein, ANOC Gender Equity Commission Chair and OCA Chair of the Peace and Sport Standing Committee, in his speech call for the need to look beyond gender equity among athletes and to address the gender balance among the coaches, referees officials, and Olympic Committee leaders and staff.
The two-day Seminar is expected to focus on actionable outcomes such as building partnerships, developing initiatives, and setting the stage for the future of gender equity in sports.
The seminar organised in collaboration with BDNOC and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports highlighted the OCA's commitment to fostering a more inclusive sporting environment for women.
