Islam emphasises the importance of fulfilling promises, as they are not just words, but a trust and responsibility that will be questioned in the hereafter. Breaking a promise is a major sin, hated and condemned by Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. The matter was emphasised in the Friday Sermon titled "Promises: Easy to Proclaim, Heavy to Fulfil." The sermon also outlined, keeping and fulfilling promises is a symbol of honesty and purity of one's heart.
The Imam or prayer leader said indeed, we live in this world will always be bound by promises, whether promises to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, the Prophet Sallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam and mankind. As for what is meant by a promise to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala is by fulfilling acts of worship. While the promise meant to the Messenger of Allah (Sallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) is following his journey, life and teachings. Therefore, if a person succeeds in keeping his promise to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and his Messenger, then he will also definitely succeed in keeping his promise to others. On the other hand, if he fails to fulfil his promise to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and his Messenger, then he is a person who does not hold a trust, while fulfilling the promise is among the people who have noble character and are pious.
