To collect the latest ecological data and document the overall biodiversity on Pulau Selirong and Pulau Pilong-Pilongan, the Brunei Darussalam Expedition from Forest to Reef 2025 was launched on 19th May morning. Held in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MYCE 2025, the event took place at the Mangrove Paradise Resort. Held for a week starting 19th May, the expedition focused on studying the biodiversity of the mangrove forests on Pulau Selirong as well as the marine ecosystem in the waters of Pulau Pilong-Pilongan.

It was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The research group comprise local experts from Universiti Brunei Darussalam UBD, while the international researchers are from the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity; the Center for Ocean Plastic Studies from Kyushu University, Japan; Jejakin from Indonesia; Sabah Wetlands and ADS Environmental Services from Malaysia.
