His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the 15th ASEAN-United Nations Summit, 27th October night. His Majesty, in a titah, reflected the U.N.'s centrality in humanity's progress for eight decades, reducing extreme poverty and hunger, and advancing public health and global cooperation. As the world faces complex and interconnected challenges, ASEAN efforts must complement the agenda set by the U.N., including addressing the global threat of climate change. His Majesty encouraged the U.N. and the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change to work closer to advance ASEAN's climate ambitions and achieve a sustainable and resilient future for all.
His Majesty also expressed Brunei Darussalam's support for the "U.N. EIGHTY" initiative, which reaffirms multilateralism and make the U.N. more responsive in advancing peace, development, and sustainability.
