Brunei Darussalam remains committed to the implementation of the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development, renewed through the Doha Political Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports made the statement while attending 'The Second World Summit on Social Development' held for three days from the 4th of November in Doha, Qatar. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad also highlighted Brunei Darussalam's national initiatives under the Social Blueprint and Manpower Blueprint, implemented through the Whole-of-Nation approach, and supported by multi-agency cooperation platforms including the National Council on Social Issues, MKIS, the Manpower Planning and Employment Council, and the Special Coordination Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
Yang Berhormat Dato further emphasised regional efforts, including the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change in Brunei Darussalam and support for the ASEAN Comprehensive Framework on Care Economy. In addition to the plenary sessions, several parallel related platforms and initiatives were also convened, including two High-Level Round Tables which discussed on strengthening poverty eradication efforts, creating decent work opportunities, enhancing social inclusion, and reviewing progress and challenges in implementing commitments under the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and its Programme of Action, as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Summit was officiated by Her Excellency Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA); His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar as the Host; and His Excellency Lok Bahadur Thapa, President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Brunei Darussalam's participation in this Summit demonstrates the country's continued commitment towards strengthening global efforts and redefining strategies to advance social progress, ensuring that no one is left behind in the global sustainable development journey.
