12/11/2025  26th Session of the UN Tourism General Assembly

National

Recognising the importance of measuring sustainability in the tourism sector, Brunei Darussalam underscores the need for tourism development to be guided by reliable data and evidence-based policies. The matter was shared during the 26th Session of the United Nations, UN Tourism General Assembly, held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Brunei Darussalam delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. Brunei Darussalam will lead one of the initiatives by hosting the UN Tourism Regional Workshop on Measuring Sustainability in Tourism for Asia and the Pacific this month.

On regional workshops, it served as a valuable platform to enhance regional capacity in applying international frameworks and methodologies to assess the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of tourism, reflecting Brunei Darussalam's continued commitment to promoting data-driven, resilient, and inclusive tourism growth.

These efforts align closely with the Brunei Darussalam Economic Blueprint and the Brunei Darussalam Tourism Industry Roadmap 2024 – 2035, which emphasise innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity as key drivers of national progress. By actively engaging with UN Tourism, Brunei Darussalam continues to strengthen its position as a responsible and collaborative partner, and also supporting national efforts towards economic diversification and sustainable development under the Wawasan Brunei 2035.
