​The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department informed that extreme weather conditions are expected to persist until Monday, 12th of January. Brunei Darussalam is currently in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon, also known as the rainy season.

During this period, the country usually experiences unstable weather conditions. Occasional heavy and thundery showers are expected to affect many areas across the country, particularly during the afternoon and evening, with the potential to continue into the early morning hours the following day. Dayang Rokiah binti Haji Angas, Acting Director of Meteorology said the persistent North-easterly winds have contributed to moist and unstable atmospheric conditions over the region, leading to enhanced development of active rain clouds and an increased occurrence of prolonged heavy rainfall.
