09/02/2026  Cooperation in Addressing Drug Abuse Issues

A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between the Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB, Prime Minister's Office and the National Narcotics Board, BNN of the Republic of Indonesia was signed for the first time to strengthen and enhance cooperative mechanisms in addressing drug abuse issues within the ASEAN region. The collaboration encompasses the exchange of information, expertise and best practices in the areas of drug law enforcement, drug prevention education as well as treatment and rehabilitation of drug addiction. The signing ceremony was held on 9th February morning at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

 

On behalf of Brunei Darussalam, the MoU was signed by Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail, Director of NCB. While the Republic of Indonesia was represented by Police Inspector General Drs. Agus Irianto, Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation, BNN. Present was Zulhusam bin Haji Abdul Samad, Acting Permanent Secretary for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office. Also present was His Excellency Professor Dr. Achmad Ubaedillah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam.

 

 The Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation, BNN also delivered a special talk titled “Indonesia's Experience: Evolving Drug Trafficking Trends, Transnational Syndicate and Operational Responses".

 

Prior to the MoU signing ceremony, Police Inspector General Doctor Andus Agus Irianto paid a courtesy call on the Acting Permanent Secretary for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office. During the courtesy call, both parties exchanged views on current drug-related issues and explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating drug- related crimes.
