Startups today play a crucial role in driving economic diversification, job creation, productivity, and technological adoption. While Brunei's startup ecosystem is still at an early stage of development, the steady progress achieved year on year is encouraging. Opportunities lie in being outward-looking, such as leveraging regional connectivity, forging strategic partnerships, and supporting solutions that are designed to scale beyond the domestic market. The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy stated the matter at the official launch of the Brunei Startup Summit 2026 in Gadong, 11th February morning.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, as Chairman of the Brunei Economic Development Board, BEDB highlighted that with institutional stability, a trusted regulatory environment, and close ties with neighbouring countries, Brunei offers a natural platform for startups and investors seeking to access and serve Borneo's growing markets.
Organised by BEDB, the two-day Summit brings together more than 500 participants, comprising startup founders, innovators, investors, corporate representatives, policymakers, and ecosystem partners from Brunei and the region. The Summit provided practical guidance on strengthening teams, achieving product–market fit, and using data and artificial intelligence to improve day-to-day business decisions and operational efficiency.
