The priority of the Islamic Religious Council of Brunei Darussalam, or MUIB, is to make Islamic teachings understood, disseminated and practiced perfectly. The Islamic Religious Council is needed as a policy maker to determine the direction of Islamic administration in Brunei Darussalam. The Minister of Religious Affairs as Yang Di-Pertua of MUIB emphasised this during the Special Munajat in conjunction with the 70th Anniversary of MUIB. The ceremony took place at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kiarong, 14th February afternoon.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman also touched on the Constitution of Brunei Darussalam, which stated that the Official Religion of Brunei Darussalam is Islam. However, other religions can still be practiced peacefully.

Leading the reading of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah was the Minister of Religious Affairs. The event was highlighted with a Tazkirah or lecture delivered by Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, the Deputy State Mufti as MUIB member. Also in attendance were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge as MUIB members.
