20/02/2026  Prohibition of Offering Ramadhan Buffet for Premises that have not obtained Halal Certificate

The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Shariah Affairs Department informed all food and beverage premise operators in the country that any premise that has not obtained Halal Certificate is NOT ALLOWED to offer, promote, display or use any expression or term that refers to food or beverages provided as Halal.

 

This includes the use of terms such as "Ramadhan Buffet", "Sungkai Buffet", "Iftar", "Ramadhan Set", "Sahur Buffet", or any other terms that directly or indirectly refer to a meal for breaking the fast or sahur.

 

The Shariah Affairs Department through the Halal Food Control Division will continue to carry out monitoring and inspection activities on premises that offer and promote Ramadhan-themed dishes without a valid Islamic Religious Council of Brunei Halal Certificate. Premises found to be in violation of the provisions of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order will be taken a legal action. If convicted, a fine not exceeding BND8,000, imprisonment not exceeding two years or both.
