The Ministry of Finance and Economy announced the introduction of a new scheme, 'Skim Tabungan Anak Damit', effective on 1st of March 2026. The scheme among other things aims to foster a culture of saving among the community from a young age.

The 'Skim Tabungan Anak Damit' will involve financial assistance through the opening of the 'Akaun Si Manja Khas' at Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB. 240 Brunei Dollars will be credited once for each birth with the following criteria:

Eligibility depends on the citizenship status of the infant at birth: The infant is a Brunei citizen (whether born in the country or abroad); the infant is a permanent resident who does not have any other citizenship (stateless) (born in the country only);

The infant is a foreign citizen but the infant's mother is a Brunei citizen or holds a purple smart identity card (stateless) (born in the country only).

The 'Skim Tabungan Anak Damit' can be claimed by the parents or guardians of the infant until the infant is 1 year old. The Disposable Diapers and Breastfeeding Aid Scheme will be abolished from 1st of March 2026. Any births before the effective date of the new Scheme will continue to receive assistance until completed.
