Six fatalities among cyclists were recorded for the past five years. The accident statistics does not include those who have suffered serious injuries that have affected the lives of individuals and families. Road users are strongly advised to comply with all safety controls and help ensure roads are safe for everyone. As a short-term action, alternative cycling routes have been introduced nationwide as a step forward to support a healthy lifestyle through cycling activities.
For Brunei Muara District, the alternative route for cycling activities is along the Stadium area, which can be used every day. Meanwhile, as pilot project, the route along Jalan Perdana Menteri, Jalan Ong Sum Ping, Jalan Kebangsaan, and Jalan Menteri Besar are open for cyclists every Wednesday Night from 8 in the evening until 12 midnight. Meanwhile, the Bandarku Ceria cycling routes is also proposed to be expanded. Meanwhile, for Tutong District, the route will be at the Bukit Bendera area. Whereas in Belait District, the route will be leading to Kargo Dam, namely Jalan Labi, Belait District. For Temburong District at Jalan Pekan Bangar route. The identified routes will be installed with road signs, namely road signage and marking. All road users need to respect road signs and road regulations as well as to comply with the set speed limits.
