The total trade in January 2026 amounted to 1,824.1 million Brunei Dollars, comprising exports valued at 1,146 million Brunei Dollars and imports valued at 678.1 million Brunei Dollars, which recorded in a trade balance surplus of 467.9 million Brunei Dollars.

 

The major contributors to the exports value were Mineral Fuels, followed by Chemicals and Crude Materials, Inedible.

 

The main export markets were Australia, followed by the People's Republic of China and Japan. The largest export commodities to these countries were Mineral Fuels and Chemicals.

 

Meanwhile, for imports, the major contributors were Mineral Fuels, followed by Machinery and Transport Equipment and Food. The largest import partners were Singapore, followed by United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. The main import commodities from these trading partners were Mineral Fuels and Food. The imports for end use categories were mainly used as Intermediate Goods processing, followed by Capital Goods for business operations and Consumption Goods for household use.

 

Compared to January 2025, the total trade value declined by 6.1 per cent in January 2026, driven by decreases in both exports and imports by 6.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent, respectively.
