The Ministry of Health believes that today's health challenges including the emergence of new infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, and environmental degradation, cannot be addressed by any single sector alone. These threats transcend the boundaries between human and animal health as well as ecosystems. According to the Minister of Health, all of these challenges require an integrated, science-based, and collaborative response. This forms the foundation of the One Health approach, an integrated framework which recognises that the connections between human, animals, plants, and ecosystem health are inseparable. One Health is not just a concept; it is a commitment to work across ministries, disciplines, and borders to create a healthier and more resilient nation.
In a message in conjunction with World Health Day, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham Bin Haji Jaafar explained that, the World Health Day theme “Together for Health, Strong with Science" emphasises that advances in public health are built on a foundation of scientific evidence and multi-sector collaboration. Vaccines, disease monitoring systems, early detection tools and public health policies are all the products of science and collaboration.
Hence, the Ministry of Health urged all parties to always believe science-based information, and reject the spread of false information, especially in the era of rapid digital information sharing. Health is not only the responsibility of the government and health workers, it is a shared responsibility and all parties play an important role in safeguarding their own health. Every citizen and resident of Brunei Darussalam is urged to trust and act based on scientific evidence to protect their own health and for their loved ones. The public is also encouraged to support vaccination programmes, public health measures and the responsible use of medicines, especially antimicrobials or antibiotics, to preserve their effectiveness for future generations.
