The 61st Meeting of the Programme for International Student Assessment Governing Board (PISA-PGB) was held at Brazil International Convention Center, Brasilia, Brazil, from 8th until 10th of April 2026. The meeting is organised biannually by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and this meeting was attended by more than one hundred participants from OECD member countries/economies, as well as OECD associate and partner countries. The main agenda of the meeting included a presentation of the latest developments of the PISA 2025 analysis, as well as the PISA 2025 Report launch plan for this September 2026.

 

Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary For Core Education at the Ministry of Education. The meeting was officiated by Her Excellency Kátia Helena Serafina Cruz Schweickardt, the Secretary of the Basic Education Department of Brazil, representing the Minister of Education, His Excellency Leonardo Barchini. The meeting discussed several assessment frameworks for PISA 2029. The three-day meeting also shared developments on some innovative projects, including preparations for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in PISA assessments in the upcoming cycles, taking into account the increasing use of AI technology in teaching and learning. 

 

Discussions also continued on efforts in coordination and correlation between the PISA assessment and the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) – a program responsible for assessing literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving competencies amongst adults. The meeting also presented the latest development on PISA-VET (Vocational Education and Training), the PISA assessment for vocational education and training. Another major agenda was the deliberation on the long-term strategy of the OECD work programme in the field of education and skills. The 61st PGB meeting also addressed a few administrative matters such as the various work programmes, budget allocations, and critically, the extension of the Mandate for PISA.
