Islam provides clear guidelines for social interaction, including safeguarding one's speech, upholding proper etiquette, and perfecting moral character. Interaction based on manners and kindness will create a prosperous society, adorned with love and mutual respect for one another.
This was among the contents of today's Friday sermon titled “A True Friend: Friend in The World, a Companion in the Hereafter". The Friday's sermon also touched on the value of friendship, which is not merely a source of strength in facing the trials of this world, but also a guiding light towards the hereafter.
Imam Al-Ghazali Rahimatullah in his book, explains that a good friend is a friend who possesses several key qualities, namely Wise and Judicious, so that his advice is beneficial. Of good character, so that the friendship is built upon etiquette and respect. Righteous and pious, so that we are guided towards the pleasure of Allah SWT. Not covetous of the world, so that the relationship is not tainted by worldly interests. And, Honest and trustworthy, so that the friendship is built on trust.
