In Brunei Darussalam, energy continues to play a central role in supporting economic growth and development. The commercial sector accounts for close to 28 percent of national electricity demand, making it one of the most important segment of targeted efficiency improvements. This was underscored by the Permanent Secretary for Energy at the Prime Minister's Office during the Townhall session with Sungai Bera Industrial Park Tenants for transitioning the site towards an energy efficient and solar intergrated industrial park. Organised by the Department of Energy and the Brunei Economic Development Board, BEDB, the session took place at Sungai Liang Industrial Park Belait District.
Dayang Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, further added Brunei Darussalam continues to advance demand side efficiency through targeted regulatory measures. The introduction of the Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling Act in 2023 is a key step in promoting more efficient energy use by ensuring that only electrical appliances meeting minimum energy performance standards are brought into the market. The session provides an important platform to bring stakeholders together, as an opportunity to align perspectives, exchange insights and more importantly identify practical pathway for implementation.
