The Universiti Brunei Darussalam UBD, in collaboration with the Singapore-based Space Faculty, has successfully launched Brunei Darussalam's first seed payload to the International Space Station. The success also marks a historic achievement for the country in the fields of science, research and innovation. The pioneering mission under the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research, UBD, also places Brunei Darussalam among countries advancing space-based research for the future of agriculture, food security and sustainability.

Witnessing the launch online was Doctor Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD. In this mission, local seeds were sent as part of a scientific payload launched using SpaceX's Falcon Nine Block Five rocket, carrying the Cargo Dragon Two spacecraft for NASA's Commercial Resupply Services mission. The payload will orbit the Earth for six months, exposing the seeds to extreme conditions of space that cannot be replicated on Earth.
