His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, arrived in Berlin for an Official Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen. Upon arrival at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, His Majesty was greeted by Mr. Volker Timmermann, Acting Chief of Protocol, Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Her Excellency Pengiran Hajah Krtini binti Pengiran Haji Mohd. Tahir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Federal Republic of Germany; officers and personnel of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Berlin; citizens, residents and students of Brunei Darussalam who are in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Federal Republic of Germany were formally established on 1st May 1984. Over the past four decades, both countries have built a solid foundation of cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests. The 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2024 marked a significant milestone in this friendship, which spans various strategic sectors including trade, defence, education and health. The meeting of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Germany on Monday, 18th May 2026 at Villa Borsig, Berlin will further reaffirm and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Federal Republic of Germany.
