03/06/2026  Establishment of the National Committee on Addressing the Impact of the Middle East Conflict

National

The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has established a special committee known as the National Committee on Addressing the Impact of the Middle East Conflict to monitor and coordinate the nation's measures in addressing the effects of geopolitical instability in the Middle East region. The government has previously been continuously monitoring the development of the conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on the global supply chain and on the country.

Compared to several other countries that experienced immediate effects, Brunei Darussalam has thus far been able to manage the situation through the Government's early measures, including the national stockpile policy, management of strategic supplies and other related interventions implemented from time to time. In view of the ongoing and prolonged geopolitical instability, as well as current developments that continue to place pressure on basic daily needs as a whole, the Government is implementing inter-agency coordination through the establishment of a special committee at the national level to strategically coordinate in terms of monitoring and response.

The establishment of the National Committee represents a proactive and preparedness-driven measure to ensure that the country remains ready to face any eventuality should disruptions to global supply chains continue or become more significant in impacting the country in the future. The Committee will also comprehensively assess the medium-term and long-term implications on the country's strategic sectors, as well as the welfare of the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam.

The Committee will be co-chaired by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence and the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, with membership comprising relevant Cabinet Ministers to ensure a whole-of government approach in addressing these challenges. The Government will continue to closely monitor ongoing developments and undertake appropriate measures to ensure that the nation's interests, economic stability, and the well-being of the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam remain safeguarded at all times. Developments relating to this National Committee will be shared from time to time on the Prime Minister's Office website.
